Description
Although most researchers have mentioned the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on EFL learners’ learning and test score improvement, the number of studies about using AI tools to enhance first-year English majors’ test scores in English language theory is limited, especially in Vietnam and at HUFLIT (Ho Chi Minh University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology). This study aimed at investigating AI effects on first-year English majors’ test scores of basic English linguistics. Mixed research methods were used in the study with 120 out of 200 participants, survey questionnaires, pre- and post-tests, an AI-using training course, and a semi-structured interview. SPSS and the structured interview were used to get the data. Findings indicated that the AI use training course has had a significant improvement on test scores among three levels of proficiency, especially for the poor learners. Positive attitudes about the AI training course were recognized and welcomed, which unfolds a suitable recommendation to AI use as a tool for enhancing test score achievement in the English language theory course.
