Description

This workshop begins with a discussion about the challenges of providing personalized writing and speaking feedback, including time constraints and maintaining consistency. Participants will reflect on their current use of AI tools through a quick poll, setting the stage for how automated feedback can complement their teaching while saving valuable time.
The central 30-minute hands-on session is divided into two focused segments. First, participants will spend 15 minutes exploring AI-powered writing tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Write & Improve. They will analyze sample student texts to compare how each platform evaluates grammar, coherence, and style. This practical experience will help identify which features best support their specific teaching needs. The next 15 minutes will focus on speaking assessment tools, including Read Along, TOEFL TestReady, and Speak & Improve. Participants will test these tools with spoken responses, examining how they provide instant feedback on pronunciation, fluency, and vocabulary usage.
The workshop concludes with a 10-minute collaborative discussion where participants share insights about integrating these tools effectively into their teaching practice. They will consider both the benefits and limitations of automated feedback and brainstorm strategies for combining AI with human evaluation. Before leaving, attendees will receive a curated resource list with tool comparisons and implementation tips, empowering them to apply these solutions immediately in their classrooms.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be familiar with AI-powered tools for automated writing and speaking feedback, understand how to use these tools to enhance language learning outcomes, have practical ideas for integrating automated feedback into their teaching practices, and leave with actionable strategies and resources to implement in their classrooms.
