Abstract
In today's digital age, the evolutionary development of AI represents an unprecedented information revolution, permeating every industry, especially education, and particularly English language teaching and learning. Alongside, Vietnam's transition of English from a foreign language to a second language has brought about a significant change in teaching and learning. These two simultaneous circumstances are profoundly changing the approach to English learning at all ages, particularly among Vietnamese students, as knowledge about the English language is readily accessible online. Therefore, instructors at the undergraduate level must re-evaluate their teaching methods and find appropriate, engaging, and essential approaches for students’ English language learning. This research is based on an insight into 300 students majoring in English from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at HUFLIT. It aims to explore the requirements and expectations of students regarding English language instructors' teaching methods in the era of AI and English becoming a second language in Vietnam. This study is also to identify the irreplaceable values and capabilities of instructors in English language teaching within the AI integration. The results of this research may help instructors with innovative methods to inspire learners, share experiences and learning pathways, and cultivate students' cultural behavior as well as emotional intelligence when learning and using English.
