Abstract
The growing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in English language education has generated increasing interest in its potential to enhance classroom interaction. This study investigates the impact of AI-assisted learning on teacher–student interaction in EFL speaking classes among non-English major university students. Data were collected from 200 students through questionnaires and reflections on their learning experiences. The results indicate that AI tools enhance student participation, promote more frequent interaction, and facilitate more responsive communication between teachers and learners in classroom settings. Nevertheless, challenges such as over-reliance on AI, reduced spontaneity in communication, and variations in digital literacy were also identified. Although most participants expressed positive attitudes toward AI use in speaking classes, its effectiveness largely depends on thoughtful pedagogical integration and appropriate instructional design. The findings highlight the importance of balancing technological support with active teacher guidance to sustain meaningful, engaging, and effective classroom interaction in diverse educational contexts.
